Amorphous Cores
Amorphous cores are made from a noncrystaline ribbon that is wound into a toroidal core. The advantages of this type of material are easy magnetization, low hysteresis loss, high resistivity and low eddy current loss.
Amorphous Noise Suppression Devices
The use of amorphous cores in suppression applications transforms a reverse recovery to a “soft recovery. “Soft recovery” is accomplished by using a core to store the current and dissipate it over time.
Amorphous Saturable Cores
The most common application for amorphous saturable cores are mag amps for switching power supplies. However, the cores can also be used for time delays in soft switching circuits, noise suppression devices and larger application and Royer Circuits in self oscillating transformers.
