Applications Engineer

Job Description:

Designs and develops permanent magnet components, assemblies and systems.

Responsibilities:

Supports magnet sales teams with the development of magnetic designs that meet or exceed customer needs.  Will use modeling tools and prototyping to validate design work and to enable smooth hand off to process engineers for production.  Will be involved in materials evaluation.  Works with all functions to provide technical know-how, troubleshooting and expertise in the area of permanent magnets, electromagnets, design and applications.  Will participate in product & program focus teams.  Will have the opportunity to develop specialist areas of expertise and application design.  Requires extensive interfacing with internal and external customers.  Requires willingness to participate in training of less technical colleagues.  Occasional travel.

Requirements:

• BS in Engineering or Physical Science -  advanced degree desirable
• Experience with permanent magnet and/or electromagnet design and applications
• Specific experience with the design of motors, generator, couplings and/or magnetrons a plus
• Strong computer skills [MS Office, Internet, etc.] - programming skills a plus
• Experience with BEA or FEA modeling software [Magneto & Ampere preferred]
• Experience with CAD [SolidWorks preferred]
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Proven ability to initiate, lead and complete multiple projects simultaneously
• Proven team player, able to interface at all levels of the organization
