Dexter Magnetic Technologies is an expert in magnetic materials and customers rely on us to ensure that all rules and regulations are being followed for shipping of magnetic materials. All personnel responsible for shipping magnets by air are trained for that purpose as per Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) requirements.
Magnets and magnetized materials are considered “Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods” according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and accordingly must follow the Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).
What are Dangerous Goods?
Dangerous Goods are commodities that, when transported, post some form of danger to people, animals, the environment or the carrier.
What special precautions must be followed?
Magnetized_Material_Label_IATAFlux measurements of packages determines whether the shipment must be classified as a Dangerous Good. Packages containing magnetic materials must be clearly identified. The label bears the picture of a magnet and a compass and, rather than a number at the bottom, contains the words “Magnetized Material”.
