Exploring the Future of Aviation: Blended Wing Body Aircraft

April 12, 2024

Among the recent advancements in aviation one of the most notable is the Blended Wing Body Aircraft (BWB).  Magnetic components play a crucial role in the development and operation of these cutting-edge aircraft. From propulsion systems to avionics and flight control systems, magnetic components are integral to ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of BWB …

Navigating DFARS Compliance in Magnet Technology

Aligning Magnetic Technology Advancements in the Aerospace Industry with DFARS Guidelines

Dexter Magnetic Technologies, a leader in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, has many processes in place to ensure DFARS compliance, when required in the statement of work. Our processes include document control, inspection, and traceability. We include a “DFARS Required” statement on all purchase orders when required.  In addition, our comprehensive testing processes utilize superior-quality materials to ensure that our products meet the toughest requirements. This enables us to guarantee the reliability and safety of our products for our customers.

Different from the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), which applies to contracts across all federal agencies, the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) is a set of standards that governs the acquisition of military equipment. The regulations apply to all U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) contracts and subcontracts.

DFARS requires defense contractors to implement measures to protect the supply chain from potential vulnerabilities, such as counterfeit or tampered products. Given the imperative role that magnets play in many applications, this is especially significant. Substandard or counterfeit magnets could lead to equipment failures, compromising mission-critical operations.

In addition, Dexter Magnetic Technologies follows the requirements highlighted in the Specialty Metal Clause when they apply. The purpose of this section is to highlight the domestic sourcing requirement that restricts the Department of Defense (DoD) from procuring items, such as specialty metals, that are not manufactured in the United States. These include metals containing alloying elements greater than certain thresholds, such as steels containing cobalt, molybdenum, nickel, niobium (columbium), titanium, or tungsten. Specialty metals possess unique properties such as strength, heat, and corrosion resistance, which are often critical components of defense systems.

The Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) prohibits the acquisition of certain magnets and tungsten from North Korea, China, Russia, and Iran. Dexter manufactures finished rare earth magnets that are fully sourced and compliant with the U.S. Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS).

Welcome to e-VTOL, Vehicles of the Future

October 19, 2023

Electric Flying Taxis Even though flying taxis may sound like something from science fiction, they will soon become everyday realities. This large-scale revolution will start in 2024, beginning at the summer games in Paris, with sky-high vehicles to transport passengers through the metropolis. Although e-VTOL vehicles will take flight in 2024, the industry is not …
